August 4th, 2008, 3:37 p.m.
The boys are done eating their lunch and cleaning up afterwards. Now, they're sitting on the couch, again, and talking.
"So, what do we do, now?"
"Well, there's really nothin' to do here, since there's no TV, and no computer."
"I know. Let's do what everybody does when they first go to a new city."
"And what might that be?"
"Let's go sight seeing, man. Let's go see what this city has to offer us. What can we do here? Let's go find out."
"That is a good idea, man. Let's do it!"
The two get up and grab their wallets and phones and get ready to go. Joey is half-way out the front door when Max speaks.
"You go on out there. I gotta grab something real quick."
Joey nods and then heads down to the car. Meanwhile, Max goes into his room, over to the nightstand and opens the drawer and grabs both pistols. He puts the safety on both and then "holsters" the black one in his right, front pants pocket, and then tucks the chrome one into the front of his waistband. Then he puts his shirt over top of them to conceal them from view. Then he grabs the keys to the Vigero and heads out, locking the door on the way. He goes down 4 of the staircases to get to the 2nd floor and he goes over to room 101 and knocks. The land lord answers the door.
"Hey! Did you need something?"
"Yeah. I just realized you forgot to give us a key to the apartment."
"Oh. I guess I did. Let me go get it."
He goes away for a moment and then comes back.
"Here ya go."
He hands the key to Max.
"Thanks."
"No problem at all."
Max continues down to the ground floor and out to the car. Joey's already in the passenger seat waiting. Max opens the driver's side door and looks around. There's no one around, so as he gets into the car he pulls the chrome pistol out of his waistband.
"Where the hell did you get that?"
"While you were out getting the groceries earlier, I searched our bedrooms. I found this in the nightstand in your room. It had an empty clip with it, which is now in it. I think you should have it."
He hands it to Joey.
"Why do you want me to have it?"
"Because it's your color, and I also found another one in my color."
Max pulls out the black one to show Joey.
"You found both of these in the apartment?"
"Yeah. Like I said, I found yours in the nightstand in your room, and mine was in the nightstand in my room. Both had an empty clip with them, but they were separated. So I put the clips in the magazine wells, where they go, and kept 'em. I wasn't about to just throw away a free gun, you know, let alone two."
Joey looks at his gun.
"Well, it is my color, and it is a good gun."
"Sure is. There aren't too many pistols out there that are better overall than the nineteen-eleven Colt."
"Yup. Shit, this one looks damn near identical to the one I used while we were in the service."
"No doubt. Same here."
"So, how do we hide 'em? We don't have any holsters."
"Just tuck it into your waistband for now. Cover it up with your shirt."
They both tuck their guns into their waistbands and cover them with their shirts. Then they adjust their bodies in their seats so that they're comfortable.
"There. Now that that's outta the way, let's go sight seeing, eh?"
"Oh yeah, eh."
Max starts the Vigero up and then pulls it into the right-hand lane and heads up Joliet Ave. to the first intersection where he makes a right turn onto Hollowback St. Then he makes a left onto Attica Ave. and then a quick right onto Windmill St.
"Hey, look! There's a car garage there. We should remember that. Maybe they can do the work we'll need done on the car."
At the next intersection, Max turns left onto Guantanamo Ave. and then a sweeping right onto Jackhammer St. It turns to the left and then they turn right onto Lompoc Ave. and then left onto Drill St.
"There's a Burger Shot."
They continue down Drill St. and then right onto Leavenworth Ave. and then a quick left onto Coxsack Ave.
"Oh boy, there's a strip club."
"And it's called 'The Triangle.' That's rich."
"I like the neon sign they got on the wall."
"Yeah. It's interesting."
They continue along Coxsack Ave. as it bends to the left and then heads north. They take a left onto Flanger St. and then a right onto Altona Ave. and then another left onto Planche St. They follow it until it comes to the Northern Expressway and they make a left turn onto it. They follow it along until it comes to Elbow St. which they make a left turn onto. It turns left into Valdez St. but they make a quick right onto Turtle St. They go through the intersection there and Turtle St. turns into Rykers Ave.
"Top Appliances. Well, there's our place to get the TV."
"You wanna stop and get it now?"
"Nah. We'll swing back and get it later. We got the whole rest of the city to see, man."
They turn right onto Applejack St. and they follow that all the way to San Quentin Ave. which they turn left onto.
"There's another Burger Shot. They must be popular."
They follow San Quentin Ave. all the way back onto the East Borough Bridge.
"Looks like we're headin' back to that first island with the airport."
"It says here on the map that the top part of that island is called Dukes and there's a lower part called Broker. Broker is where that Hove Beach place was where we got the car from Lola."
"Right. Well, that's where we're goin'."
They continue along the East Borough Bridge on the way to Dukes/Broker.
