As you might know, there are two bills, one in the Senate and one in the House of Representatives that seek to censor the internet and give corporations and businesses the right to have webpages taken down if they violate copyright laws, etc. These are called the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA). I will agree that piracy is bad, however, the wording in these two bills are too vague and they would give too much power to the corporations and businesses that they claim to want to protect. This power could be used in totally corrupt ways that could destroy the internet as we know it.
I won't stand for this, and you shouldn't either. That's why I have agreed to join in a demonstration that several other bigger websites will also participate in. This coming Wednesday, January 18th, several websites, including this one will "go dark" or shut down for the entire day. I know, that won't mean much to this site since no one ever visits it and I don't post very often. But we must stand up and fight this terrible legislation that, if passed, could destroy the internet forever.
